Working as an acute mental health nurse for over 30 years, I came to believe that the vast majority of mental health disorders, both chronic and acute, were the result of emotional trauma, both recent and in the more distant past.
This emotional trauma would manifest itself in many ways, either in the body, mind or spirit, and sometimes in all three simultaneously.
I realised that each aspect of ourselves was affected by the other and none of them could be treated in isolation from the others.
For example, there was no point in treating a person’s cognitive and behavioral dysfunction with counseling, psychotherapy or medications, if they ate a poor diet lacking in essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals.
Likewise, certain emotionally repressed traumas would manifest as ailments, dis-eases and other physical conditions. A common example is repressed anger manifesting as an inflammatory response somewhere within the body.
This branch of science is known as metaphysics and has become more widely accepted in recent years as more people have gained insight into the root cause(s) of their dis-ease.
My work with those experiencing unresolved trauma is rooted in the belief that we are comprised of mind, body and spirit. As such, I seek to empower those suffering with a range of tools for all aspects of the self, which can help restore balance and harmony to the ‘whole person’.
